Review for TGH You Play! exercise book
You Play! is a delightfully interesting and versatile new exercise book for french horn groups with unique approach to playing and practising. Tunes are varied in both the amount of players (from 1 to 4) and the skills needed to play them. As there is not always a chance to get four players together, it is great that the book includes also an array of duos and trios. For less experienced quartets this offers also an opportunity to switch players during the piece in case a pause is needed.
The tunes themselves are funny, catchy, beautiful and original, as is the accompaniment on the play-along cd. A big bonus comes from the pedagogical standpoint the book takes on learning and rehearsing in the form of written instructions in the beginning of each tune. Each of the composers have their own specific ideas and approaches woven in their compositions and that makes the pieces refreshingly different from each other.
The members of the TGH quartet are well-known for their inspiring work shops among the young french horn players. This book will bring the ideas of these popular work shops within reach of every music teacher. A highly recommendable purchase!
